What's your book of regrets?

Florafolly where stories bloom and lessons unfold. A journey inward, shared outward. And so it starts…
The story 📚
I close the book and wonder: what’s my book of regrets like?
Last week, I finished reading The Midnight Library by Matt Haig—a novel about a magical library where each book lets you fix a regret and live the life that could have been.
As I closed the final chapter, I couldn’t help but wonder: What would my book of regrets look like?
What if I had managed to get into med school? What if I had pursued a career as a chemist? What if I had listened to everyone telling me to take the pharmacist exam?
I find myself imagining all my parallel lives.
In one, I’m still studying.
In another, I’m working in a lab coat.
Yet here I am, in this version of my life, and somehow…
I know it’s the best one of all.
When I was 20, I faced a pivotal choice. Med school was no longer an option, but becoming a pharmacist still was. Everyone encouraged me to pursue it—it was practical, secure, and achievable. After all, what else was I supposed to do?
But deep down, I wasn’t sure it was what I truly wanted…
A close friend of mine was in the same situation, and we made drastically different decisions.
On the day of the final exams, I decided to close the door forever. I texted my brother: “Come get me. I’m not taking this last exam. I quit.”
I was scared that if I cracked the door open, I’d step through—not because it was right, but because it was easy. After all, it’s easier to walk through the door that’s already unlocked.
My friend, on the other hand, chose to stay. She passed her exam and got in.
People thought I was foolish for walking away—and it’s true, for a few months, I felt lost and directionless.
Fast forward ten years. The last time I visited my friend, she told me she had quit her job after more than eight years of study, realizing she was unhappy. She said she had never truly wanted that life—and now she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do...
The lesson 📝
Life confronts us with difficult choices. Sometimes, the easiest option today seems like the obvious path forward, but ease and alignment are not the same. The easy road now often leads to harder consequences later.
Choosing the harder path—the one less certain, the one that feels risky or unconventional—takes courage. It means stepping into the unknown without a clear map or guarantee of success. But, in my experience, it’s where the real growth happens.
The truth is, we can’t avoid what’s “hard”.
The question is: when do you want to face it?
Do you want to struggle now, taking a chance on what feels right, or later, wrestling with the weight of misaligned choices?
Regret isn’t something to fear. It’s a sign that we’ve grown—that we’ve learned more about ourselves and what truly matters. It’s how we avoid making the same mistakes twice.
The real challenge is in owning our decisions.
Whether it’s the hard choice now or the easier one with consequences down the line, we’re the ones who will live with the results.
The questions 💭
What is your gut telling you right now? Is there something you know deep down you need to act on?
If you could see all the “books” of your life, which path would you want to step into?
What’s stopping you from following your instincts? Is it fear of failure? The weight of others’ expectations? A lack of clarity?
Imagine yourself in ten years: what would your future self thank you for doing today?
Until next time, may your choices bring you closer to the life you truly want.
Wishing you a joyful and peaceful holiday season.
With love,
Flora 🌸
